Tactical Emergency Medical Service (TEMS)
Description
The primary objective of the tactical EMS provider is to assist their respective team in completing the mission. Broadly, their role is to help accomplish the mission with as little property damage, and as few deaths/casualties as possible.[1] When not participating in training work-ups and live missions, TEMS serves to educate and train the team on life-saving medical procedures such as bleeding control, chest trauma management (i.e. seals or needle decompression), and airway management.
Additionally, TEMS members are expected to train with their team in weapons safety and marksmanship, workouts, and tactics exercises. TEMS is expected to be a reliable member of their team, who is an asset rather than a liability in the field. The ability of TEMS providers to develop medical threat assessments, render immediate medical care in austere environments, and provide logistical support will further the health and safety of law enforcement personnel and reduce the incidences of injury, illness, disability, and death associated with training and tactical operations.
