Comprehensive Cybersecurity Defense

An introductory course to help participants learn how to protect network systems. This National Cybersecurity Preparedness Consortium (NCPC) training course is developed by the Criminal Justice Institute at the University of Arkansas System.

Course Description
After an introduction to cybersecurity, participants will learn how to protect network systems by surveying the following:
● Summarize historical perspectives;
● Planning and preparation of defenses;
● Installation and administration of defenses;
● Hardening network defenses;
● Administration of defenses;
● Monitoring defenses; and
● Testing and modifying defenses—followed by a review of cybersecurity defenses and emerging trends.
Upon completion of this course, participants will have an increased understanding of the historical perspectives, network design, and emerging methodologies in computer hacking.

Target Audience
This course was developed for technical personnel and technical managers within the public or private sectors affiliated with an agency or organization considered as part of our nation’s critical infrastructure.

Prerequisites
Participants should have some experience as a cybersecurity professional, a basic understanding of network concepts, and a basic understanding of computer operating systems.

Preferred Prerequisite: Experience as a system or network administrator.

Required Materials
This course is delivered in a mobile training lab, using laptops that are preconfigured with hands-on exercises that immerse participants in real-world cybersecurity examples.
